Great family fun for the lil men in single father's divorced world we live in today. The fact the main character doesn't achieve the battle goal the heart enduring team of under dogs learn you can already have it all, all you'll ever need to be happy, right under your nose if you justvopen your eyes and heart to the possibilities.

This movie was on cable a few weeks ago, and my son has been asking to watch it ever since. So I purchased this BlueRay for him. As if it was copied.

The movie itself plays just fine, and my son is watching it at least once a day. I on the other hand am very disappointed that it did not come with a digital code.

For times we are away. Three stars seems a bit much, but there is no unfunctional to the movie disc itself. The Real Steel is not a film that you would go to expecting a really good movie, but, for the most part, it is enjoyable.

Of course not, but with all the garbage that comes out these days, this movie was a pleasant surprise. Its story is made up of, or reminds you of, other movies you may have seen.

Rocky, Transformers, and Over The Top are the ones that stand out for me. A problem I have with many movies these days is a difficulty feeling any connection to whats going on or major characters.

There are plot holes, things move to fast, or it just doesn't work. Real Steel is able to have fun with the fighting robots while also having a story between a father and son, and both sides of the movie come together to make what ends up being a decent movie.

You really dislike Hugh Jackman early in the film. He is basically a scumbag and deadbeat dad. Though they don't go into too much detail through out the film, you can tell part of why he has become this way is because he was a pretty good boxer in the past and was replaced by these robots which made him obsolete.

I really was getting into the fight scenes and they were done in the Rocky way, which means you are almost cheering from your seat for the good guy to win in the end.

Overall there's not much I can say against this movie. It gets a little dull a couple of times earlier in the movie, and a couple of the minor parts in the movie were not really necessary, but the negative reviews for this movie really make no sense to me.

At the least its a good popcorn flick, but you may walk away surprised that this kind of movie is as good as it is.

Cool kid with a huge Robot. Sometimes I tell my friends with kids that their kids will love this movie but they're going to want a robot after seeing this.

Heck, I want a robot after seeing this. I wouldn't use mine for fighting though but for work, helping me pick up heavy things, etc.

I loved Real Steel. Real Steel was a blind buy for me. I thought it looked good in the trailers and it generally got good word of mouth.

I really didn't know anything about the story going in to my viewing but I expected a lot of heavy action involving robots and not a whole lot more.

I was very pleasantly surprised at just how wrong I was. With that said, first let me say a couple things about this 3-disc set from a technical perspective: The video presentation here is for all intents and purposes perfect.

It is an absolutely gorgeous transfer and demo material in every sense of the word. Colors are rich and vibrant. Eveything is well defined with detail that shows off exactly what Blu-ray is here for; a superb picture.

Late in the fourth round, Atom's vocal-respond controls are damaged, forcing Charlie to use its visual "shadow function" to make it visually mimic his boxing skills.

This, and the fact that Zeus starts running out of power from its constant offense , tip the odds in Atom's favor, forcing Zeus' programmer to manually control it, and Max and Bailey both watch Charlie doing what he was meant to do, and are touched by seeing him literally fighting for his son.

Zeus gets a sound beating, once even hitting the ground and barely avoiding losing by knockout, but survives the final round and wins the match by the judges' decision.

The technologically superior machine remains undefeated, but with the humiliation of being fought to a near-loss, to which Atom is hailed the "People's Champion".

Based on Richard Matheson 's short story "Steel. Advertising company FIVE33 did a two-hundred page "bible" about robot boxing.

Levy said he was invited by Spielberg and Snider while finishing Date Night , and while the director initially considered Real Steel to have "a crazy premise," he accepted after reading the script and feeling it could be "a really humanistic sports drama.

Jason Matthews of Legacy Effects, successor to Stan Winston Studios, was hired to turn production designer Tom Meyer's robot designs into practical animatronic props.

He said, "We have and-a-half total live-action robots that were made for this film. They all have hydraulic neck controls. Atom has RC [radio-controlled] hands as well.

Basically if they're not walking or fighting, that's a real robot. In Atom's case, it tried to have a more humanizing design to be an " everyman " who could attract the audience's sympathy and serve as a proxy to the viewer, with a fencing mask that Meyer explained served to show "his identity was a bit hidden, so you have to work harder to get to see him.

For scenes when computer-generated robots brawl, "simulcam" motion capture technology, developed for the film Avatar , was used. As Levy described the process, "[Y]ou're not only capturing the fighting of live human fighters, but you're able to take that and see it converted to [CGI] robots on a screen instantaneously.

Simulcam puts the robots in the ring in real time, so you are operating your shots to the fight, whereas even three, four years ago, you used to operate to empty frames, just guessing at what stuff was going to look like.

While the film features boxing robots, Levy said he wanted to show in the trailer "the father-son drama, the emotion Americana of it".

He said, "We are very much the robo-boxing movie, but that's one piece of a broader spectrum. The film was released on DVD , Blu-ray , and both high-definition and standard-definition digital download on January 24, , from Touchstone Home Entertainment.

Additional material includes Disney Second Screen ; deleted and extended scenes with introductions by director Levy; and a profile of film consultant Sugar Ray Leonard.

Real Steel received mixed reviews from critics. The website's consensus is, "Silly premise notwithstanding, this is a well-made Hollywood movie: Thrilling and exciting action with just enough characterization.

It has characters, it matters who they are, it makes sense of its action, it has a compelling plot. Sometimes you go into a movie with low expectations and are pleasantly surprised.

It's not quite in Balboa's weight class, but Real Steel at least has some heft. There's barely a story beat among the beat-downs that you won't expect, and sometimes the saccharine gets in the way of the spectacle, but on the whole this is enjoyable family entertainment.

Levy, a fan of The Crystal Method , invited that duo to contribute to the soundtrack; they recorded two new songs for it after viewing a rough cut of the film.

The score album, "Real Steel: Levy considered Elfman one of the few composers who could do a score similar to that of the Rocky franchise, alternating guitar-based ambient music and songs with a full orchestra.
